The ESEPA during a fire assignment in GreeceEvery year we hear in the news --> severe, devastating forest fires in Greece. Yet there an organization in Greece, which offers training and a forest fire while they may help in return.

The E.S.E.P.A. Founded in 1999 by Nikos Sachinidis with the aim of creating an organization of volunteer firefighters on the German model in Greece. In Greece, we know so far almost exclusively professional firefighters. The small towns and villages in the rural areas of Greece have often no organized fire departments. The population here is the devastating forest and bush fires, of which Greece is hit every year, largely defenseless to arrive supra-aid from the larger cities. And also in everyday emergencies like house fires, traffic accidents or medical emergencies is often not much to save, if the supra-help finally arrives.

Drive around the one hand, the development of the volunteer fire departments in Greece, even and especially as regards the training of local volunteers, and other regional urgently required reaction force on forest fires and other major emergencies (storms, conflagrations, earthquakes are) available to leading The ESEPA During the summer months through during the peak fire season, an international forest fire using camp to be held in 2010 to the already the tenth time. In the forest fire using camp volunteer helpers take (trained firefighters, emergency personnel and rescue personnel in part) from many countries in Europe.

Fire-fighting aircraft are required to support forest fire fightingThe helpers do their work during their holidays and pay the travel expenses out of pocket. Location of the camp is the village Rizomata, located about 25 km north of Mount Olympus, and two-hour drive from Thessaloniki in the mountains. During the camp operation, we train volunteers to Greek firefighters to make up work to strengthen the infrastructure of ESEPA and lead maintenance, repair and conversion work on the vehicles and equipment through. The E.S.E.P.A. has almost exclusively on old fire engines from Germany and neighboring countries. We are conducting patrols and also drive into the missions, both at the local level ( "normal" fire service operations, technical rescue, emergency medical), as well as at regional and national level (forest fires or other major incidents). The camp crew moves in larger stakes of up to a radius of 400 km around our camp, if necessary, on other routes. The handling of the application request is made through the offices of the Fire Service or directly from the central control office of the disaster in Athens.

Even in our county, there are early reports of participation in the fire-training camp 2010th Festivities have already promised some friends and other Interesensbekundungen available. Ingo Geidelt, who acts as vice chairman of the Appropriations Kfv Saxony, was in 2009 in this camp and can report only predominantly positive.Even if you are interested in it, then we ask for a contact.
